Gorman Residence Remodel

This remodel project was a collaboration between myself and builder Jim Gorman for his personal residence. The original structure sat on a beautiful 10 acre site at the base of Ross Peak overlooking the Gallatin Valley. Jim's original intention was to rework the floor plan making the house more functional and livable, as well as add more room to the living spaces and take better advantage of the surrounding views. Jim also wanted to give the house more of a farmhouse look, which was more appropriate to the setting. This approach brought the scale of the house down, yielding lower shed roofs and a wraparound porch. Jim and his wife's choices for interior finishes added to the farmhouse feel, with rustic cherry floors, two panel arch top doors, and custom built-ins with a "Mission"' style finish. More contemporary styling was used in the kitchen and master bath areas. A separate 3 car garage was added to the project with a small guest apartment upstairs. The original house size was about 3200sqft, and total finished was around 5000sqft not including the new guest apartment.
